Dominican Republic blanks Guatemala to close day one
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 24, 2019 – Host
Dominican Republic swept Guatemala in straight sets 3-0 (25-10,
25-19, 25-17) to close the first day of actions in the U19 Boys’
Volleyball Pan American Cup on Wednesday at Ricardo Arias
Pavilion in Santo Domingo.
Fuhit Edoard Cadit scored 20 points, including three blocks and
three aces, to lead the attack for the home boys. Brian Muñoz
added 11 points and Dawilin Méndez contributed 9 points in the
victory.
The home side held a 9-0 margin in service winners and of 6-4 in
blocks. They overwhelmed their opponents in attacks 37-15. The
winners made 27 unforced errors while the losers gave away 23
points via mistakes.
Guatemala had a pale offense with three players –David Ismalej,
Jason Hernandez and Jose Carrillo- each scoring a team-high 4
points.
Loren Rodriguez, coach of the Dominican Republic: "I never
underestimated the capacity of Guatemala, we have faced several
times in this category, our boys were very anxious and thank God
everything went well. Now to prepare for the next matches."
Reider Lucas, coach of Guatemala: "We came with a team with
little experience. It is the youngest team of the competition
and we played a competitive group. The purpose is to continue
the development of the boys.
