Dominican Republic crowned champion of the Final Four U20
LIMA, Peru, September 9, 2018.- Dominican Republic was crowned
champion defeating Argentina 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 25-21),
in the match for the gold medal of the second edition of the
Final Four U20 that was held at the Manuel Bonilla Coliseum in
Miraflores.
The game was well played from start to finish. The serve and
blockade of the Dominican Republic was key to destabilizing the
solid defense work that the Argentineans had shown in the
previous days of the competition.
The spectacular Dominican blocking was again their weapon to
conquer the title, with a wide advantage of 12-5. Argentina did
better in the attack by 52-53 and service 7-10. The Dominicans
had 17 unforced errors against 26 by Argentina.
Captain Natalia Martinez, with 18 points, was the top scorer of
the winners including 13 attacks, 4 points in service and a
block; also the opposite Yanlis Feliz contributed 15 points to
the winning cause, the attacker Madeline Guillen contributed 14
and center Sthefanny Gonzalez 13. For Argentina, the opposite
Melisa Corzo finished with 25 points and Candela Salinas 16.
The captain of the Dominican Republic, Natalia Martinez: "Today
we had to win, Argentina is a team that battles a lot, but we
learned from the first game, we played together correcting our
mistakes and that led us to victory".
The Dominican Republic coach, Wagner Pacheco: "Argentina has a
great team, very organized and well trained, we lost the first
game, but we had the opportunity to study them and make a better
game today".
The captain of Argentina, Victoria Mayer: "We came very well in
the tournament and today we had the illusion of another result,
but we have to continue our main objective is the South
American. We took a great learning, we have taken full advantage
of it and we know what we have to improve to be able to meet our
goal in October."
The Argentine coach, Guillermo Cáceres: "This tournament has
been very important in our preparation for the South American, I
thank the Norceca and the FPV for having invited us. Dominicans
managed to impose their power in the attack and blockade today,
but these matches are the ones that they make us grow, not the
ones that are won." |
