Dominican Republic finishes second in their Pool
August 27, 2025.- Dominican Republic finished second in Pool F after
falling to China in the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World
Championship this Wednesday. China closed their pool phase campaign
undefeated.
Playing in Chiang Mai, the Chinese (who had dropped sets to Mexico
and Colombia in their previous matches) showed solidity to dominate
the “Queens of the Caribbean” and secure a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-17)
triumph in their last Pool F match.
With the victory, China reached nine points and confirmed the top
spot in the Pool F standings, which set them up against France,
second place in Pool C, in the Round of 16. Second with six points,
the Dominican Republic will face Brazil, first in their pool. Both
matches will be played on Sunday in Bangkok.
Wu Mengjie was China’s top scorer with 16 points (15 kills, one
block), one more than her fellow outside hitter Zhuang Yushan, who
registered 12 kills, two blocks and one ace. Middle blocker Wang
Yuanyuan also reached double digits, with ten points (five kills and
five blocks). On the Dominican side, captain and outside hitter
Brayelin Martínez was the most productive with 15 points (13 kills,
one block and one ace).
Reducing their errors to only ten, compared to the Dominicans’ 17,
was one of the most positive aspects for the Chinese, who also
outscored their opponents in kills (44-34) and blocks (13-6). The
Caribbean had the advantage in serves, leading the ace battle 3-1. |
