Dominican Republic qualifies to World Championship for eighth
time
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, October 14, 2017 – Dominican
Republic swept Jamaica in straight sets 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-6)
to secure the spot in next year’s FIVB Women’s World
Championship in Japan.
It is the eighth time the Dominican Republic reach the final
stage of an FIVB Women’s World Championship with a fifth place
in 2014 as their best finish.
Bethania de la Cruz registered 11 points to lead the well
distributed Dominican offense. Gina Mambru had 9 points
including three aces as the second best. Yonkaira Peña and the
sisters Brayelin and Jineiry Martinez each contributed 8 points
in the victory.
The Dominicans dominated from the service line 11-0 with Peña
providing six aces, and held the advantage in the blocking
department 4-2. |
