Dominican Republic secures its place in the Semifinal
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, August 24, 2023.- The Queens of the
Caribbean remain undefeated with a 3-0 record in the NORCECA Pan
American Cup Final Six after defeating Canada 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25- 18)
on the fourth day of competitions.
Bethania de la Cruz was the leading scorer for Las Reinas with 18 points
and Madeline Guillén added another 17. For Canada Sydney Grills had 11
points while Avery Heppell contributed with 7.
The Dominican Republic has two games left, one against the United States
and the other against Puerto Rico. Canada also has two remaining
commitments, one with Puerto Rico and the other with Cuba.
Marcos Kwiek, coach of the Dominican Republic:
Well, we needed to win this game to secure our spot in the Semifinals.
The next game in the Preliminary round is against the United States to
continue giving the girls game so that they can all play and then
prepare what It will be Semifinal and Final.
Carolyn O'Dwyer, coach of Canada:
I think our team improved compared to the first two games which is good
to see, we had a noticeable improvement in serving putting the
Dominicans off balance. The Dominican Republic is a very good team, I
liked how we fought, although we still have a lot to improve. |
