Dominican Republic sweeps Peru

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 9, 2018 – Host Dominican Republic defeated Peru in straight set 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-14) in the last match of day two at the Women’s Pan American Cup on Monday.

It was an easy victory for the home side which held a 38-20 advantage in attacks and a 9-4 margin in the blocking category.

The Dominicans share the top position in Pool A with Canada at 2-0 mark and 10 points following victories over Costa Rica and Peru. On Tuesday they are scheduled to meet in a decisive match.

Yonkaira Peña led the offense of the Dominican side with 9 points as coach Marcos Kwiek rotated all his players in the lopsided contest.

Brayelin Martínez scored 8 points playing only in the first set while Gaila Gonzalez also had 8. Bethania de la Cruz added 7 In the victory.

Brenda Uribe, Brenda Lobaton and Kiara Montes each scored 7 points for the defeated side.

Marcos Kwiek, Coach of Dominican Republic: I am satisfied with the performance of the team in the first two days. Our plan has been to give opportunities to all the players because we are going to need them later in the event. Also we have to prepare the team for the Central American and Caribbean Games.
