Dominican Republic takes seventh place at U20 Pan Am Cup

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, May 12, 2017.- Dominican Republic swept Chile 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-12) to take seventh place at the U20 Women’s Pan American Cup in Gimnasio Nacional of San Jose, Costa Rica.

Dominican Republic, already qualified to the FIVB World Championship as NORCECA Champions, had no difficulties in winning over Chile with enormous advantage of 41-23 in attacks, 14-2 in blocks and 2-1 in aces. Dominicans benefited from 22 opponent errors and limited their own to 18.

Vielka Peralta of Dominican Republic finished with 21 points for a match-high, including 18 kills and 4 blocks; also joining the winning cause was Madeline Guillen with 13 points. Amalia Carvajal and Beatriz Novoa topped Chile with 6 and 5 points respectively.

Yakaty Perez, Dominican Republic’s captain: “We like to finish among the finalists, we came well prepared for a difficult pool-play round but things didn’t work out for us; we aren’t happy. Today we performed relaxed and luckily there were no complications”.

Amalia Carvajal, Chile’s captain: “It wasn’t a good tournament for Chile; we have a lot of hard work to do. Today our bench players finished the match and there wasn’t much to do. Congratulatiions to Dominican Republic for winning today”.
