Dominican Republic unstoppable against Canada

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, August 28, 2018 - The Dominican Republic got its second victory of the Norceca Under-18 Women's Volleyball Championship by going 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-19) against a tough Canadian team.

The Canadians led the attacks 35-29 in part by complicating with their serves (3-1) the reception of their rivals, but committed many errors with 33, by just 17 of the Dominicans who led the blocking 12-4.

Flormarie Heredia with 12 points was the best for Dominican, with nine of Yanelys Cabada. For Canada, Anna Smrek had nine marks.

"I'm very happy and very happy with my teammates because they gave more than I expected," said Dominican captain Geraldine Gonzalez. "They are very tough teams in this tournament, the coaches demand more from us and in my team we are all players, we do the job they order us. I think we all play to make the Dominican Republic stand at the top."

Alexandre Ceccato, coach of the Dominican Republic: "It's difficult, it's a complicated tournament. The best thing about our team today was the spirit, we started the first set very well ".

"We have improved every day, but it is very difficult, they are not used to that pressure, this tournament is not easy. There is a lot of responsibility for the players, but so far they are behaving well. Canada failed many serves, but they would have complicated the match more".

Hannah Duchesneau, Captain of Canada: "All the matches are complicated, we gave our best effort for this game. Our plan is to give a percentage more each day. For the third game we will try to do the same, to improve. Today the communication was very good, our attack, the offensive was very good".

Dale Melnick, coach of Canada: "We had many unforced errors, we failed in the serves, but we managed that the other team did not manage to stabilize and make the reference player (Geraldine González) could not attack hard".

"We sent the service with a goal and sometimes they could not locate the ball, we tried to take away the opportunity to attack hard, complicating them at the time of receiving, we had to risk the serve".
