Dominican Republic won Peru and goes for gold
LIMA, Peru, May 17, 2019 - Dominican Republic won in straight
sets over Peru (25-19, 25-21, 25-16), and this Saturday 18 at
4:00 pm will play against Cuba for the medal of gold of the V
Pan-American Cup U20- Herbalife Cup held at the Manuel Bonilla
Coliseum.
Dominican Republic had the top scorers of the game, Natalia
Martinez and Madeline Guillen who contributed 15 points each for
their team. For Peru, Ariana Arciniega and Camila Pérez
equalized with 10 points each.
Although the host team had a better reception, the Dominican
Republic team was impressive with its attack (40-27) and block
(12-6) taking out of play one of the main Peruvian striker,
Kiara Montes.
In service, Peru had a minimal advantage (4-5). The unforced
errors were even: 18 Dominican and 19 Peruvian.
Cristian Cruz, DT of the Dominican Republic: We are very happy
to reach the final. Tomorrow we will play against Cuba, a team
that has grown a lot but I think that if we improve our serve,
the game can be easier for us and get the victory.
Natalia Martinez, Dominican captain: We thank God for the
victory. I am grateful to my team because today we followed the
instructions of the coach and things went well, we have more
sport discipline every day and that will serve us a lot tomorrow
against a rival who has shown very strong as Cuba.
Ariana Arciniega, captain of Peru: Each of the matches of this
Cup has served us a lot of preparation for the U20 World
Championship. Tomorrow we will play against a new rival, but we
will go out and do our best game to stay with the bronze medal.
