Dominican Tapia ties record of aces in a single match
WINNIPEG, Canada, September 4, 2019 – Dominican Republic’s
Henry Tapia tied an all-time record for most aces in a
single match at the NORCECA Continental Championship when he
landed 8 services against Guatemala on the third day of the
2019 competition.
Tapia, who finished with 34 points, equaled the record
established by Cuban Fernando Hernández against Canada on
September 2, 2011 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and later tied by
Joan Breleur of Martinique against St. Vincent on September
29, 2017 in Colorado Springs.
The announcement was made by Dr. Roosevelt Comarazamy,
director of Communications of NORCECA who said statistics
are kept since 2001 when the Volleyball Information System
(VIS) was first implement within the confederation after the
adoption of the rally-point rule.
Comarazamy also informed that Tapia is the sixth player to
surpass the 30-point plateau in a single match of the
biennial competition. The feat has been accomplished seven
times, including twice by record owner Jose Caceres, also of
Dominican Republic.
Caceres set the mark of 37 points in a match against Mexico
on October 17 of 2009 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
