Dominican made adjustments to beat Guatemala
CAROLINA, Puerto Rico, July 17, 2014 – Following a tough battle
in the first set, the Dominican Republic team was able to made
the adjustments to defeat Guatemala 3-0 to begin the NORCECA
Men’s Final Playoff towards the World Championship at Guillermo
Angulo Coliseum of Carolina on Thursday.
The line score of the Dominican victory was 27-25, 25-13, 25-18.
The first set was well fought with the Guatemalans able to
decode the serves of the Dominican Republic and with good
defensive and offensive moments. The Guatemalans led the set
24-23 and 25-24 but couldn’t execute and the Dominicans
stabilized their blocking to close it.
The next two sets were won comfortably by the Antillean team.
The Captain of Dominican Republic Wilfredo Hernández had 13
points as also did the veteran Jose Miguel Cáceres. Mario frías
chipped in with 8 points in the win. Gerardo González was the
best for Guatemala with 12 points.
“We started somehow cold, part of the reason our lack of
international play. Also I wanted to utilize everybody, but for
the next match we will go out with better concentration,” said
José Alvarez, Coach of Dominican Republic.
On the other hand, David Aldana, Coach of Guatemala, stated: “We
had a good start, but they (the Dominicans) made adjustments
with their serves and it created many problems. That hurt us,
when we could solve their serves it was too late.” |
