Dominican women win Gold in AAU International Tournament
ORLANDO, Fla. - The U-20 National Women's Volleyball Team of the
Dominican Republic won unbeaten the International Division of
the 44th Annual Amateur Athletic Union Championship which ended
Sunday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Dominican team is preparing to defend the crown at the World
Championship of the FIVB International Under-20 Volleyball
Federation to be held in Cordoba and Boca del Rio, Mexico from
July 14 to 23.
Under the direction of former national player Cristian Cruz, the
Dominican combined to win all eight matches in which they
participated.
The Dominicans crowned their great work by beating China 2-0
(25-23, 25-8) on Sunday for the top spot in their division and
then triumphing 2-1 (24-26, 25-19, 15-6) On Asics Munciana
Samurai in a crossed match between champions.
Last Thursday, the Dominicans opened their participation by
beating the representatives of Slovenia 2-0 (25-10, 25-17) and
then Germany 2-0 (25-9, 25-9).
The next day they defeated Colombia 2-0 (25-11, 25-14) and China
2-0 (25-9, 25-17) and on Saturday won victories over Israel 2-0
(25-8, 25-9) And Colombia Sport Voyager 2-0 (25-14, 25-9).
Coach Cruz was assisted by the Brazilian Alexandre Ceccato and
Darío Andisín, and the delegate was Agripina Martinez.
The Dominican side was formed by the following players:
