Dominicans accomplish second day of training camp in Baja
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 8, 2014 - Dominican Republic
accomplished its second day of training sessions at the Baja
California High Performance Center as they prepare for the IX
Men’s Pan American Cup.
The presence of players like Elvis Contreras and José Miguel
Caceres have contributed to the Caribbean team as a solid unit.
Contreras, who has even been the leader in scoring points and
individual performances in the history of the tournament has
registered more than 100 international appearances by defending
the colors of the Dominican national unit.
He is also one of the most emblematic players of the Caribbean
squad and even was distinguished as the Best Scorer in the 2013
Edition of the Pan American Cup.
The Dominican native is back in the region where the tournament
was born in 2006, when the Cup was played for the first time
ever in the cities of Tijuana and Mexicali.
It was eight years ago when he got the MVP Honors in Mexicali
after registering 117 points in the First Edition, won by the
USA.
The 6-3 (1.90 meters) tall player is along with Jose Caceres one
of the athletes with the highest jump when spiking by
registering 3.65 meters, while his block can reach 3.55.
Meanwhile, Caceres is the tallest player on the roster with 2.10
meters heigth and also has more than 100 appearances in
international matches.
The Dominican team will contend along with Cuba and Puerto Rico
in Pool B, at IX Men´s Pan Am Cup first round. Their debut will
be on Tuesday at 15:00 hours, local time against the Puerto
Rican team. |
