KORTRIJK, Belgium, July 11, 2021
- The Dominican Republic advanced to the eight
finalists of the U-20 Women's Volleyball World
Championship by decisively defeating the home
team of Belgium in consecutive sets 25-19,
25-21, 25-17.
The triumph of the Dominican girls could have
meant sweet revenge for the setback suffered
against Belgium in five sets by their older
compatriots in the Nations League after leading
2-0.
Romina Cornelio and Flormarie Heredia led the
Dominican attack with 14 and 11 points,
respectively. Esthefany Rabbit collected 7
points while Geraldine Gonzalez and Cherlin
Antonio each contributed 6 points to the victory.
Ariana Rodriguez, Dominican Republic setter: “We
played very well, we kept our foot on the gas
and had a lot of energy throughout the game. We
reached our goal, the top eight, so the team and
I are very proud and happy. We have to come out
very strong for the next round after the rest
day because we will face really strong opponents”.
