DURANGO, Mexico, September 26, 2021 - Poland
defeated the Dominican Republic and Russia to
Puerto Rico in matches of the round of 16 of the
U-18 Girls' Volleyball World Championship on
Sunday.
Both matches ended in straight sets and were
widely dominated by European teams as Poland won
3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-16) and Russia triumphed
3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-13). The losers play now
for the positions 9 to 16.
The Polish established a high defense at the net
beating the Dominicans 17-3 in blocking while
the Russians gave the same treatment to Puerto
Rico with a 15-6 margin.
Natalia Kecher led Poland with 17 points,
including 9 blocks, and Karolina Staniszewska
added 13. Ariana Rodriguez Fung finished with 10
points for the Dominican side.
Natalia Zuvorova had nine blocks and 18 points
as the top Russian scorer, followed by
Anastasiia Kapralova and Alina Popoova with 15
and 12, respectively.
Ana Fuertes had 8 points for Puerto Rico. |
