TIJUANA, Mexico, December 30, 2015 - It is winter in Northern
Mexico. A little bit cold in the Baja California Peninsula.
However the warmth of the Caribbean feels very deep at the
Multipurpose Gym of the High Performance Center.
Dominican players have got familiar with this facility after
competing in many tournaments such as FIVB Age Group World
Championships, Pan American Cups and Age Group Continental
Tournaments.
Bachata and Reggaeton are part of the morning practice rituals,
while many kids who practice other sports such as judo,
badminton, olympic wrestling, get the contagious vibe.
Dominican Repulbic practices with a full squad, as the team
coached by Marcos Kwiek looks forward for their ticket to the
Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The Caribbean team began a training camp after arriving in Baja
last Sunday.
They started with court practices and have also held some
scrimmage matches against Colombia, a team that experiences its
firts experience at the High Performance and Development center
located just a few miles from the US-Mexico Border that has
hosted many teams that have chosen this site during their
Pre-Olympic preparation cycles.
Libero sensation Brenda Castillo and the young Winnifer
Fernandez have shared the court as well as some spectacular
plays.
Some other athletes like Gina Mambrú, Prisilla Rivera, Annerys
Vargas or Marianne Fersola, also reported.
One of the good news of this training camp is the presence of
Lisbel Eve Mejía, known as “China”, who has shown a full
recoverage.
Just a few years Eve suffered an exposed fracture in her leg
during a match of the Peruvian Volleyball League season.
The return of Eve Mejia has been granted and has proved a great
comeback after earning the MVP Honors at the Norceca Women's
Champions Cup, that was played in Cuba in 2015. |
