SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 20, 2015 – Hosts
Dominican Republic kept their undefeated record at the U20
Women’s Pan American Cup by improving to a 2-0 mark following an
easy victory in straight sets (25-7, 25-9, 25-16) over Costa
Rica at Ricardo Arias Pavilion in Santo Domingo on Monday.

For second day in a row, the home team gave the fans a lot to
cheer for with their spectacular serves and consistent blocking.
The Dominicans held advantages of 11-2 and 9-2 in blocks and
				aces, respectively.

Gaila Gonzalez led the winners with 16 points and next was
Natalia Martinez with 13 points, including seven aces, and
Angelica Hinojosa with five blocks among her 9 points.

“We made too many errors in the third set but other than that it
was a good game for us,” Dominican Captain Yocaty Perez said.
“We need to reduce the mistakes in our next matches.”

“We changed our attitude after the first two sets and decided to
battle for the points,” Costa Rican Tatiana Sayles said. “It is
important for us to play against a team that is a powerhouse at
				the world level.”

“We had the match under control for the first two sets,” said
Wagner Pacheco, the Brazilian coach of Dominican Republic. “Then
I did change our two outside hitters and our level was not the
same because these girls don’t have the same experience as the
				regulars.
				 Everything
continues as planned but tomorrow we play a stronger rival in
Chile and need to study them even though they lost in five sets
to Mexico but could have won the match.”

Andres Lopez, coach of Costa Rica: “It is important to play
against teams like the Dominican Republic because they force you
to get the best out of yourself. Today they made more errors but
we also won some good points finding some holes. Matches like
this one helps us to progress in our area.” |
