Dominicans capture gold at Bolivarian Games
SANTA MARTA, Colombia, November 17, 2017 – The Dominican
Republic captured the women’s volleyball gold medal of the
Bolivarian Games with a 3-1 (13-25, 25-21, 25-11, 27-25) victory
over host Colombia on Thursday.
The Dominicans, who entered the U23 tournament as the favorites
to win the top place, did not disappoint after recovering from a
sluggish start in the last day of the female competition.
The champions finished with a 4-0 record to top the podium while
Peru (3-1) and Colombia (2-2) finished second and third,
respectively.
Brayelin Martinez landed 21 points to lead the Dominican
Republic’s offense, Jineiris Martinez added 19 and Yanlis Feliz
and Vielka Peralta each charted 11 points.
Giselle Perez had 18 points as the best Colombian followed by
Veronica Pasos and Karina Olaya with 12 and 11, respectively. |
