Dominicans crowned champions at AAU Championships
ORLANDO, Florida, June 24, 2019 – The Dominican Republic’s U20
Women’s Volleyball Team was crowned champions of the
International Division of the 46th AAU Junior National
Volleyball Championships for third consecutive year on Monday.
The event took place at the ESPN World Wide of Sports and Orange
County Convention Center.
The Dominican side, who won their nine matches of the regular
phase without losing a single set, grabbed the crown by
defeating Slovenia 2-0 (25-16, 25-18).
Natalia Martinez was the leader of the scoring for the Dominican
squad with 12 points, followed by Madeline Guillén with 9 and
Geraldine Gonzalez and Romina Cornelio with 8 and 5,
respectively.
En route to their crown, the Dominican team defeated Puerto Rico
(25-17, 25-18), Brazil (25-17, 25-10), Germany (25-13, 25-12),
China-Tieli (25-9, 25-10), Australia (25-4, 25-11), Slovenia
(25-14, 25-9), Colombia-Pony (25-22, 25-15), China-Hothot
(25-13, 25-11) and Colombina Sport Voyager (25-12, 25-17).
The Dominicans are preparing to participate in the FIVB U20
Women’s Junior World Championship in Mexico.
In the consolation match for third place Brazil d. Puerto Rico
(25-17, 25-15). Then China Hothot d. Colombia-Pony (25-17,
17-25, 15-4), Colombia-Sport d. Germany (25-19, 25-17) and
China-Tieli d. Australia (25-18, 25-9). |
