Dominicans cruised

CHINCHA, Perú, September 7, 2014.- Dominican Republic cruised by
Costa Rica in straight sets
(25-8, 25-13, 25-13) in the second and last match of Pool B at
the II Women’s U-23 Pan-American Cup that began on Sunday at
Mauro Mina Coliseum in the city south of Lima
As well as the cold season, the Caribbean team froze their
opponents with superiority in every aspect: in attacks (35-14),
blocking (9-2) and service (7-2) in a match that lasted 56
minutes.
The top scorer of the match was Brayelin Martinez (14), joined
by teammates Yonkaira Peña and Gaila Gonzalez, both with 11
tallies, while on their opponents side, Tania Carazo scored only
seven points.
Brazilian Wagner Pacheco, head coach of the Domincans, was
realistic by saying “we played well for as a practice match, we
know our team is superior than Costa Rica, but our battle will
is against Colombia and Cuba, now we must rest and study the
South American teams for tomorrow’s match”.
The captain, the tallest player in the tournament, with 195
centimeters as she says, Brayelin Martinez said “we fell well
with our victorious debut and because the team was always
united”.
Argentinian Horacio Bastit, coach of the Central Americans
explained “we are in another stage than Dominican Republic,
there are technical and physical differences, what we tried was
to gain experience for our girls and try with less stronger
teams and less height to play as equals”.
Opposite player Mijail Hines, captain of Costa Rica manifested
“we know that Domincan Republic is incredibly stronger than us,
they are a highly leveled opponent, so we decided to perform
enjoying the moment”.
