Dominicans defeat Naranjito to conclude tour in Puerto Rico

PONCE, Puerto Rico, January 16, 2017 – The Dominican Republic training team concluded their exhibition tour in Puerto Rico with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-13) victory over Changas of Naranjito at Salvador Dijols Pavilion on Monday night.

The Dominicans won four of six matches, including three out of five against Ponce Lionesses, in preparation for the upcoming international season.

Gaila Gonzalez and Yonkaira Peña were the top scorers for the winners with 18 and 15 points, respectively.

After three close sets, the Dominicans took control of the fourth set with solid blocking and accurate serves.

“I am pleased with the overall performance of my players during the tour,” said coach Wagner Pacheco. “I used a rotating system to give playing time to everyone in our squad and each one responded.”
