JUNCOS, Puerto Rico, September 15, 2015 - Dominican Republic
trounced Japan 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-14) in their first match of
Pool F at the second phase of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20
World Championship on Tuesday.
Captain Brayelin Martinez and opposite Gaila Gonzalez led the
Dominican attack with 17 and 15 points, respectively, while
Jineiry Martinez chipped in with nine. Shino Nakata and Kaori
Mabashi had 11 and 10 points for Japan.
The Dominican Republic outscored Japan in blocks 11-1 and gave
away 9 points via errors to 23 by the defeated side.
In Wednesday’s actions, Dominican Republic plays Bulgaria,
losers to Peru in straight sets on Tuesday.
In other matches on Tuesday for the 9-16 positions:
Puerto Rico lost to Turkey in five sets 3-2 (22-25, 25-18,
23-25, 25-18, 15-12) despite a tournament-high 27 points by
Karla Santos.
Rida Erlalelitepe and Yagmur Kilic each had 16 points for Turkey
while Paola Rivera finished with 15 points for the home side.
Czech Republic defeated Cuba 3-0 (31-29, 25-13, 25-22) and
Chinese Taipei blanked Mexico 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-16).
Lucie Nova and Lucie Kalhousova led Czech Republic with 12 and
11 points, respectively, while Claudia Hernandez and Liset
Herrera had 11 apiece for Cuba.
Tzu Ya Chen had 15 points as the top scorer of Chinese Taipei
while Kathya Garcia finished with nine for Mexico. |
