Dominicans earn second straight set victory

FORT LAUDERDALE, United States, July 27, 2016.- Dominican Republic beat Haiti 3-0 (25-15, 25-6, 25-10) for their second straight victory at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Haiti had several good defense actions applauded by the fans at the Don Taft University Center while trying to keep up with Dominican Republic’s strength over the net. Dominican Republic (2-0) remains undefeated in group B, mostly using its reserve players.

Dominican Republic held advantage in kills (40-18), in blocks (6-0) and in serves (11-1). Dominicans committed 12 unforced errors and Haiti a total of 18.

With 16 points, 15 on kills and one block, Dominican Vielka Peralta was the best scorer of the match; accompanied by Natalia Martinez with 12 points, 11 on kills and one block, while Lisbeth Rosario added 10 points. Solaida Pierre led Haiti with 10 points, all on kills.

Yokaty Pérez captain of Dominican Republic said “the match wasn’t that easy for moments because Haiti was able to perform, they took advantage on many occasions. We used some of our reserve players thinking about tomorrow’s match against Cuba, some of our key players needed to rest. Cuba has good blocking and we must be prepared”.

Brazilian Wagner Pacheco, Dominican Republic’s coach said “Haiti is a team that knows how to fight, they went after many balls, I was surprised that they did so well, that’s good for volleyball in our region”.

Captain Graziella Chery of Haiti suffered a serious arm injury and is out of the competition, “I’m sad to be out but I am also proud of my team, they played without stress. We are all satisfied with our performance, we weren’t afraid of Dominican Republic”.

Caoch Jean Francois Osse of Haiti said they need a new strategy to face Costa Rica “we don’t count with Chery anymore so we need to make adjustments. It was a challenge facing the number one team in the world, my team fought from the beginning and they were mentally strong, I hope to continue like this”.

Dominicans (2-0) and Cubans (1-0) will meet in their last preliminary match, while Haiti (0-2) faces Costa Rica (0-2).
