Dominicans go after fourth straight crown
LIMA, Peru, August 6, 2018 – Three-time defending champions
Dominican Republic will be seeking for a fourth consecutive
crown at the U23 Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup to be
played in Lima, Peru from August 14 to 19 at Teófilo Bonilla
Coliseum in Lima, Peru.
Eight teams are registered to participate in the initial
qualification process toward the 2021 FIVB U23 Women’s World
Championship.
The Dominican Republic is seeded in Pool B along with Costa
Rica, Mexico and Colombia while host Peru be joined by
Guatemala, Chile and Cuba in Pool A.
The pool winners will advance directly to the semifinals while
the second and third placed teams will meet in crossed matches
in the quarterfinals on August 17.
In the short history of the competition that started in 2012 and
has been contested every other year, the Dominican teams have
won on each occasion with Brazil, Colombia and Argentina
finishing as runner-ups.
Yonkaira Peña was selected as the MVP in the inaugural event in
2012 while Brayelin Martínez has earned the honors in the last
two events held in 2014 and 2016.
Argentina finished third in the inaugural year while Cuba has
finished third in the last two editions.
