Dominicans improve to 6-0 in AAU Championships
ORLANDO, Florida, June 22, 2019 – Defending champions Dominican
Republic remain undefeated with a 6-0 record after two days of
actions in the International Division of AAU Volleyball National
Championships at the ESPN World Wide of Sports Center.
The Dominicans added three more victories to their tally after
defeating the teams of China Tieli, Australia and Slovenia on
Saturday.
They began establishing a solid defense at the net to beat China
Tieli 2-0 (25-9, 25-10) as the Caribbean side scored eight
blocks with Estefhany Rabit contributing five of them among her
8 points.
Natalia Martinez and Madeline Guillen topped the offensive of
the winners with 12 and 9 points, respectively, while Romina
Cornelio added 8 points, including one ace and one block.
In their second outing of the day, the team of Wagner Pacheco
and Cristian Cruz, overwhelmed Australia 2-0 (25-4, 25-11). They
closed the day with a 2-0 (25-14, 25-9) over Slovenia.
The standings after two days:
Dominican Republic (6-0), Brazil (5-1), Slovenia (5-1), Puerto
Rico (4-3), China Hothot (3-3), China Tieli (2-4), Colombia Pony
(2-4), Colombia Voyager (2-4), Germany (2-5), Australia (0-6).
The Dominicans, winners of the past two editions of the
International Division, are preparing to participate in the FIVB
U20 World Championship in Mexico. |
