Dominicans overtook Colombia and will fight for the fifth place
LIMA, Peru, May 10, 2019 - The IV U21 Men's Volleyball Pan
American Cup resumed action on Friday at the Manuel Bonilla
Coliseum located in Lima's Miraflores district.
The first game of the day, valid for the classification of the
fifth to eighth place, resulted in a resounding victory for the
Dominican Republic team that won 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-20) over
Colombia.
Although Colombia pressed at the beginning of each set, from the
20-point mark on the Dominican team managed to take advantage
with greater concentration in their plays. The losing team gave
away 26 points in unforced errors, the winning team reduced them
to 18.
Colombia had the top scorer of the match, Leiner Aponza with 13
points followed by Ronnie Mosquera with 12; equal score scored
the opposite Dominican, Fuhit Edouard.
The service was the key to winning Dominican, having a 7 point
advantage with only 2 from Colombia. The Dominicans won in
attacks (37-34), but were overcome in blocking (5-7).
José Mañón, coach of the Dominican Republic: Colombia has tall
guys with a good attack, we had to adjust our blocking a lot.
The game against the United States took us a little out of our
goals in this Pan American Cup, we did not expect to lose but I
am happy with the progress of the boys and when the opportunity
for rematch comes, we know that the results will be different.
Carlos Osorio, Colombian coach: Today was not the Colombia we
had been in previous matches, there was a lot of lack of focus
and mistakes by the boys. It's something that usually happens in
this category, but that's what we have come to, to work on the
personal part, the temperament and the attitude on the court.
The Dominican Republic will play its next game on Saturday at
11:00 am against the winner of the United States vs. Peru game,
the winner will take fifth place in the U21 Pan American Cup. |
