Dominicans prevails against tough Baja California

 

   

LIMA, Peru, May 9, 2015 – Dominican Republic edged Baja California in five sets 3-2 (25-21, 18-25, 25-15, 19-25, 15-10) in day two at the Final Four U18 Gatorade Cup at Niño Heroe Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Miraflores in 2 hours and two minutes.

 

Massiel Matos was the best scorer for the winners with 24 points while Lisbeth Rosario and Vielka Peralta finished with 15 and 10 points, respectively in the victory. Veronica Gomez had 23 points for the losers.

 

The Dominicans held the advantage in the blocking category 12-3 and committed 31 unforced errors to 34 by Baja California.

 

Alexandre Ceccato, the Brazilian coach of Dominican Republic commented: “When we play against a team with good defense it takes us a while to react, especially because we have two new players. This experience helps our growth and improvement ahead of the world championship.”

 

Evelyn Carrera, the Dominican coach of Baja California, said: “Today our players went out more determined and with a little more confidence since yesterday against Peru was their first international match. We talked a little and prepared a good game strategy.”
