Dominicans reach Final Four with fourth victory

OLOMOUC, Czech Republic, June 11, 2016 - Dominican Republic confirmed its favorite status on the 2016 World Grand Prix Group 2 second weekend after scoring a tough, but 3-0 (25-16, 27-25, 25-21) win over Canada to extend to its winning streak to four.

The Dominicans lost their first match against Bulgaria in five sets and then have scored victories over Argentina, Kenya, Bulgaria and Canada. They finish playing against hosts Czech Republic on Sunday.

Bethania De La Cruz scored a match-high 17 points in the victory while Brayelin Martinez and Marianne Fersola contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively. On the other side of the net, the best scorer was Michaela Reesor with 9 point.

Canada hasn't won any of their matches in this edition of the competition. This was the first encounter at World Grand Prix between the two teams. Dominican Republic defeated Canada 3-1 in the 2015 NORCECA Continental Championship.

De la Cruz, Captain of Dominican Republic: “It was not easy match, but really important for us, we needed to win three points to raise our chances to get to Final Four.”
