Dominicans score big win over World Champion Serbia at VNL
SUWON, Korea, July 1, 2023.- Dominican Republic scored a big win over
current World Champion Serbia in Week 3 of the Volleyball Nations League
(VNL) on Saturday in Suwon, Korea.
Las Reinas del Caribe recovered from losing the first set to carryout a
five-set thriller
3-2 (22-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 15-10) victory over Serbia
in their last match of the 2023 VNL.
Dominicans held advantage in attack points (71-61) and service aces
(5-2), committing fewer errors (18-24). Serbia outblocked Dominican
Republic 13-10.
Brayelin Martinez, Gaila Gonzalez and Yonkaira Peña carried the
Dominican offense.
Outside hitter Martinez with 27 points was the top scorer, on 25 kills,
one block and one ace, while opposite Gonzalez followed with 26 points
from 11 kills, three blocks and three aces. Outisde hitter Peña also
scored double digits totalizing 20 points on 19 kills and one point from
serve.
The leading scorer of the match was Serbian opposite hitter
Tijana Boškovic with 37 points.
Dominican Republic finished the 2023 Volleyball Nations League with six
wins and six losses. |
