LIMA, Peru, May 21, 2015 – Dominican Republic made an impressive
debut at the U20 Women’s Volleyball Copa Latina by defeating
Brazil 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20) in the first match of Thursday
at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum of Lima.
Natalia Martinez and Massiel Matos each scored 15 points in the
victory of a Dominican side that held advantages in blocks (9-2)
and aces (6-4). Yvett García, Angelica Hinojosa and Lisbeth
Rosario finished with 9, 8 and 7 points, respectively, in the
victory.
Beatry De Carvalho and Karina de Souza had 9 points apiece for
Brazil.
In the second match of the day, hosts Peru defeated Cuba in
straight sets 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-13) in 65 minutes.
Peru edged Cuba in blocks 9-8 but dominated in serving aces 9-2.
Angela Leyva topped Peru with 14 points, followed by Coraima
Gomez and Luciana Del Valle with 12 and 10, respectively. Liset
Herrera and Claudia Hernandez each had 9 points for Cuba. |
