Dominicans to defend the U18 Crown In Honduras
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, August 21, 2018 – Two-time defending
champions Dominican Republic are one of the nine teams
registered to participate at the U18 NORCECA Girls Continental
Championship to be disputed in Tegucigalpa, Honduras from August
27 to September 1.
The competition offers two spots to the U18 Girls FIVB World
Championship for the champions and vice champions.
Teams are scheduled to arrive in the Honduras capital on August
25 with the members of NORCECA Control Committee one day earlier
to conduct inspection visits to competition and training venues
and lodging facilities. All delegations will depart on September
2.
The nine teams have been divided into three pools for the
preliminary phase. The top two pool leaders will advance
directly to the semifinals while the lowest ranked pool winner
will play in the quarterfinals with the three second placed
teams.
Pool A consists of Honduras, Barbados and Costa Rica, Pool B is
composed by Cuba, Nicaragua and Dominican Republic and Pool C by
United States, Mexico and Canada.
In the history of the competition, United States have seven
titles including six in a row from 2002 to 2012, a streak
snapped by the Dominican Republic in 2014 when they won their
first crown revalidated in 2016. Puerto Rico in 2000 is the only
other country with a title in the continental event.
