Dominicans to play for fifth place at U18 Pan Am Cup
DURANGO, Mexico, May 25, 2019. - Dominican Republic beat
Guatemala 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-15) in the classification match
to play for fifth place of the U18 Girls’ Pan American Cup in
Auditorio del Pueblo of Durango, Mexico.
Dominican Republic’s victory lacked their normal energy still
showing a superior game level that that of Guatemala. Dominican
Republic will face the winner between Cuba and Honduras for
fifth place of the event.
Dominicans led with huge 12-3 margin in blocks, 27-23 in attacks
and 6-3 in service points, scoring on 31 opponent errors and
allowing 31 points on their own errors.
Esthefany Rabit, the only players with double-figures, led
Dominican Republic with 15 points including 7 kills and 7
monster blocks. Laura Cortéz and Jimena Castellanos topped
Guatemala with 9 points apiece.
Sthefany Gonzalez captian of Dominican Republic said this wasn’t
the match they hoped to play “we wanted to reach the podium but
for some reason it didn’t happen. We are thankful for the fans
support. Our goal was to win today and we just have to wait for
our next opponent. My teammate Esthefany Rabit was strong and
did a good job”.
Guatemala’s captain Jimena Castellanos indicated “we didn’t do
it bad against a strong team like Dominican Republic, with
experience in Worlds; we improved some skills. Our expectation
was to play against the team from our zone, Honduras; we hope
that’s the case and play with all our energy to beat them”.
