SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 16,
2021 – Host Dominican Republic beat Canada in

tying with United States atop of the standings
of the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup.
The two teams will meet on Friday to decide the
top qualifier of the preliminary phase who will
play against Mexico in the semifinals of
Saturday.
Gaila Gonzalez once again was the top scorer for
the Dominican side with 12 points, including
three blocks and two aces. Jineiry Martinez was
next with 9 points. Hillary Howe finished with
10 points for Canada.
The Canadians made 29 unforced errors to 19 by
the Dominicans who landed 10 aces against 3 by
the losers.
Marcos Kwiek, coach of Dominican Republic: “Our
service was very aggressive today. After the
first two sets we lowered the intensity of the
serve a bit and Canada saw themselves serving
strong. I think that was also positive for us to
face that difficulty to focus more on the game.
Nobody is going to give us anything.”
Shanon Wintzer, coach of Canada: “We made a lot
of mistakes. Our team is very young and
Dominican played with their "A" team. I think it
was a good experience for the girls to face a
team of that level.” |
