Dominicans win dramatic five-set duel against Cuba
LEON, Mexico, July 16, 2019 - Dominican Republic edged Cuba in a
Pool H thrilling five-set duel between teams from NORCECA at the
FIVB U20 Women’s World Championship on Tuesday.
Dominicans Natalia Martinez and Madeline Guillen registered 24
and 21, respectively, in the 3-2 (25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 19-25,
18-16) victory for the 9 to 16 positions.
Ivy May Vila and Ailama Cese were the best Cubans with 22 and 20
points while Yaimaris García and Dayana Martinez had 13 and 12.
In Pool G, also in Leon, Mexico defeated Rwanda 3-0 (25-14,
25-17, 25-16) in Pool G for the 9 to 16 positions. Uxue Guereca
led the winners with 10 points, while Sofía Maldonado and Renata
López each had 9 points.
In Aguascalientes, in Pool F for the 1 to 8 positions, Japan
beat United States 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-20).
Yuki Nishikawa and Nichika Yamada each had 11 points in the
victory, while Logan Eggleston had 11 for the losers. |
