Dominicans win series against Ponce 3-2

PONCE, Puerto Rico, January 15, 2016 – The Dominican Republic training team defeated Ponce Lionesses 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-21) in the fifth and last match of a friendly female volleyball series between the two teams at Salvador Dijols Pavilion on Sunday night.

The Dominicans won three of the matches and close their exhibition tour in Puerto Rico facing Changas of Naranjito on Monday.

Gaila González and Erasma Moreno each scored 14 points as the top scorers for the winning side, followed by Yonkaira Peña who finished with 12 in the victory.

Gina Mancuso and Taylor Simpson were the best scorers for Ponce with 14 and 10 points, respectively, while Dulce Tellez added 8 points in the loss.

The winners outscored their opponents in the blocking category 9-6 with Annerys Vargas with four blocks followed by Gonzalez with three.
