SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 3,
2021 – Host Dominican Republic came out winner
of a hard-fought battle against Puerto Rico to
close the actions of Day One at the Men’s
Volleyball Pan American Cup on Friday night.
Henry Tapia and Hector Cruz registered 26 and 23
points to lead the 3-1 (31-29, 31-33, 27-25,
27-25) Dominican Republic’s victory in the
contest that lasted 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Puerto Rico’s Jair Santiago finished with a
match-high 30 points, including five blocks.
Pedro Molina and Kevin Lopez each had 12 points
in the losing effort.
José Mañon, Coach of Dominican Republic: “It was
a very interesting match with a lot of ups and
downs. We are coming from a good tournament in
Durango that helped us. We came here to win, the
guys have a very high spirit.”
Alberto Torres, Coach of Puerto Rico: “We made
too many errors with our serves. I think the
reason for that is the lack of maturity as this
is a team of young boys. On spite of that, I am
satisfied with the result.” |
