Dominicans would train in Okayama before the Olympics
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, October 20, 2019 – The
Japanese city of Okayama will host a 10-day training camp
for the Dominican Republic women’s volleyball team before
the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
An agreement regarding pre-games training camps for the
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was signed on October 15 in
Hiroshima between the Dominican Volleyball Federation,
represented by Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, and the City, the
Prefecture of Okayama and the Okayama Volleyball
Association.
The City of Okayama was represented by Mr. Hiroshi Goto,
Director of Sports of the city of Okayama. Marte Hoffiz was
in the Japanese city to participate in the award ceremony of
the FIVB Men’s World Cup.
The agreement allows the Dominican team to use all the
training facilities within Okayama whose authorities will
provide warm hospitality.
The Dominican Republic women’s team will make all the
efforts to participate in the Tokyo Olympics, and for the
improvement of the level of technique and implement mutual
exchange through volleyball with the other three parties.
The agreement foresees future training camps in Okayama
after the Tokyo Olympics.
The Dominican Republic team will host the NORCECA
Qualification Tournament Tokyo 2020 on January 8-13 against
teams representing Mexico, Canada and Puerto Rico with the
winner earning the confederation ticket to the Olympic
Games.
The pre-tournament favorites Dominicans have participated in
the Athens and London Games, finishing in the 8th and 5th
places, respectively.
