SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 29,
2021 - The NORCECA Volleyball Confederation goes
through the sad moment of informing all its
members of the heartfelt death of Dr. Rafael
Lloreda Currea, president of the South American
Confederation and a friend and ally of ours in
multiple initiatives in favor of the development
of volleyball throughout the American continent.
.
Lloreda Currea died as a result of COVID-19 at
the Santa Fé University Hospital in Bogotá where
he was held for several weeks. He was 69 years
old.
Dr. Lloreda Currea was for many years president
of the Colombian Volleyball Federation and at
the time of his death he held the position of
treasurer of the Colombian Olympic Committee.
"We have lost a great volleyball leader, but
above all a close friend to whom we were united
by a brotherly bond of mutual affection," said
Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA.
Lloreda Currea, a member of the FIVB Board of
Directors, was part of numerous control
committees of intercontinental events such as
the Senior Pan American Cup in both genders, and
his valuable opinions and judgments always
contributed to a better organization of the
events.
In October of last year he was reelected as
president of the South American Volleyball
Confederation for the period 2020-2024 and a
month ago he was confirmed as treasurer of the
COC.

Federation from 1983 to 2008 and was part of the
Colombian missions to the Olympic Games
