Dr. Puello Herrera to preside Ethics Panel of FIVB
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, December 9, 2016 – Dr. Jose
Joaquin Puello Herrera, former president of the Central American
and Caribbean Sport Organization and president ad vitam of the
Dominican Republic Olympic Committee, has been confirmed as
Chairman of the Ethics Panel of the International Volleyball
Federation (FIVB).
A renowned neurosurgeon in his native country, Dr. Puello
Herrera presided over the organizing committee of the 2003 Pan
American and Caribbean Games held in Santo Domingo and he
recently announced his decision to present his candidature to
preside the Pan American Sport Organization (PASO).
Over the course of his brilliant career in the fields of
medicine and sports, Dr. Puello Herrera has received
recognitions for his altruism and contributions.
He is the recipient of the Olympic Merit Medal by the
International Olympic Committee and twice was decorated by the
Dominican government with the Duarte, Sanchez and Mella Order
for his community services and also for sport merits.
Dr. Puello Herrera competed in yachting at the Central American
and Caribbean Games held in Havana, Cuba in 1982 and currently
is a member of the executive committee of the Association of
National Olympic Committees.
Born in 1940, Dr. Puello Herrera graduated from the University
of Santo Domingo as Doctor in Medicine “Magna Cum Laude” in 1963
and post graduated as neurosurgeon at Oxford University in
England.
In 2008, he was a candidate to the vice presidency of the
Dominican Republic. |
