Dutch St. Maarten suffers a meltdown versus Dominica
Oranjestad, St. Eustatius, July 11, 2014 -Dutch St. Maarten
succumbed meekly in three sets (25 - 25- 25- ) to Dominica in
what was the most lopsided game of the tournament so far. The
match was the second of Day 2 action in the ECVA Senior Women
Championship.
Even the crowd on hand became sympathetic and groaned with on
every successive point lost by the Dutch.
Dutch St. Maarten Coach Cleophas Arrindell was fuming as he
left the court. "I simply cannot find words to described what
happened. They gave St. Kitts much more of a fight now it seems
as if they did not come to play. No foot movement, no
communication nothing absolutely nothing worked he wailed.
His captain Latasha Mills was of a similar view. "It seems as if
after Vickie (Victoria James) got injured and left the court
that all spirits just died we played as if we did not want to be
out there. I can't explain it either, I am just very
disappointed" she explained.
On the contrary Albert Loblack was all smiles. "Well it appeared
as if they wanted to give us a gift so we took it and said thank
you very much. Actually their lack of effort worked well for us
as we were able to play most of our bench and rest some key
players ahead of a marquee game against St. Kitts/Nevis. We even
experimented a bit so we were grateful for the no contest" he
said.
From the score sheet it was noted that Dominica got more than
50% of their points from opponents errors as 38 errors were
recorded. The other points were made up of 27 spikes, 3 blocks
and 7 aces.
Anna Maria Xavier was the top scorer of the game with 10 points
while Zahidu Henry chipped in with 9 for the victors. For the
losers Latasha Mills and Keishan Huggins both manage 3 points
each.
