ST JOHN’S, Antigua, May 7, 2016 - St. Martin romped home in 3
sets (25-13, 25-11 and 25-17) over St. Eustatius in match number
3 of the ECVA Youth Female championship.
From the onset St. Martin took the pole position establishing
convincing leads and finishing with aplomb. St. Eustatius never
stood a chance they were simply outmatched. This was very
apparent when St. Martin Middle Blocker Amanda Sylves took
command. Towering over 6 feet Team St. Eustatius had no answer
for her.
Coach Suyne Robins admitted that Sylves was a big factor.
“I believe that some of the girls were actually intimidated by
the opponents in particular the aggression of Sylves. Once that
set in they began to make unforced errors and our game broke
down. I would say that our vast inexperience contributed greatly
to our defeat,” she admitted.
Coach Jean Luc Lizan of St.Martin was humble in victory. “It
looks easy in the end but you still have to go out there and
execute in each game keeping your poise and sticking to the game
plan. We are now set for the all-important match up against St.
Lucia tomorrow,” he said
Team St. Martin dominated the score board winning 11 -2 in
spikes, 2-0 in Blocks and 15 to 5 in service points. Added to
that, they collected 47 points from opponents’ errors.
Amanda Sylves was the game top scorer with 15 points for St.
Martin while Shaunese Hous 3 points were the most among team St.
Eustatius. |
