Easy victory for Peru over Guatemala
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, May 3, 2013. - Peru beat host
Guatemala easily in straight sets 25-8, 25-12 y 25-14 in the
consolation round for the 5-8 position at the U-18 Girls Pan
American Cup.
The home team wasn’t able to contain Peru’s devastating
advantage in attacks with 37 points against 11 from Guatemala
and in service points by 14-1. Peru meets Chile on Friday for
the fifth place.
Barbara Briceño led Peru with 11 points, joined by Mayra
Sandoval with 10 points. EstefanieBethancourth was Guatemala’s
best scorer with 6 points.
“Every match is challenging, but today we didn’t give our 100%;
there was rotation of everyone and now we must concentrate in
finishing fifth” indicated Cristina Cuba captain of Peru.
EstefanieBethancourt admitted her team was low-spirited in the
beginning “our anxiousness to make things right had a bad effect
on us, but we improved as the match developed.”
“In this category the emotional aspect is the hardest to
control, I know this from my 30 years of experience” indicate
Enrique Briceño of Peru. “Today everyone had a chance to play,
among them 15 years old Maricarmen Guerrero who played the
entire match”.
Julio Dominguezde Guatemala said to be taking advantage of the
chance to play against highly leveled opponents “the positive
thing about the tournament is to restructure our tactical plan
and reinforce the psychological factor that’s very complicated
at this age.” |
