ST JOHN’S, Antigua/Barbuda, May 14, 2016 – Grenada expended very
little sweat in a three set victory (25-8, 25-23 and 25-18)
over St. Vincent and the Grenadines (Team SVG) in game 2 of the
EVCA Youth Boys championship.
Team SVG only showed some fight in the second game when they led
on the score board up to the 19 point mark but Grenada was able
to reel them in and surpass them.
Coach Raphel Braithwaite of Grenada was not a happy camper
despite the victory. “I am not impressed with the way we played
today. We did not execute according to game plan instead we
thrived on their errors and had a few good spots through our
Outside Hitter Jason Alexander. Going forward we will definitely
have to improve our play if we are to beat St. Lucia tonight. I
think a lot of it had to do with nerves since most of them were
on their debut tour. So we are going to have a rest now, some
food and do a team evaluation ahead of our game tonight,” he
reported.
Coach Vance Andrews of Team SVG concurred with Braithwaite and
pointed to the numerous errors committed by his team. Actually
55 % of team SVG points were from errors.
“Now I realize that I needed more time to prepare this team.
Notwithstanding that, they should have been able to put up a
better show but inexperience got the better of them. They did a
little game two but once they lost that game they bowed their
heads and Grenada was able take advantage of that. Definitely we
have to look at our serve and reception and put up a much
better game against the home team tonight,” he said.
On the individual scoresheet Outside Hitter for Grenada Jason
Alexander ended with a game high 10 points. John Marvin chipped
in with 8 points of his own to contribute to the victory.
Maxcian Dublin was the leader in points (7) on the losing side.
Grenada came up winner in all the scoring categories as well; 20
to 14 in Spikes, 7 to 2 in Blocks and 7 to 6 in points from the
service line.
Both teams take the court again tonight with Grenada playing St.
Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda closing day 1 with a match against
St. Vincent. |
