Eight pairs secured their second consecutive victory in Women’s Beach Volleyball at Santiago 2023

SANTIAGO, Chile, October 22, 2023 - Eight pairs secured their second consecutive victory in the Women’s Beach Volleyball tournament at the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games, and on Monday they will compete for a spot in the quarterfinals.

The leaders of each group will advance directly to the quarterfinals, while the second-place teams will face the third-place teams for the remaining quarterfinal spots.

In Group A, Chile’s María Rivas/Chris Vorpahl defeated Karelys Simisterra/Ariana Vilela (ECU) 2-1 (21-17, 16-21, 18-16), snatching three match points for the Ecuadorian team. On Monday, they will face the Mexican pair of Abril Flores/Atenas Gutierrez, who also won their Sunday match against Angel Williams/Kianny Quesada (CRC) by a 2-0 (21-12, 21-9) score.

In Group B, Corinne Quiggle/Sarah Murphy of the United States obtained their second victory by defeating Natalia Girón/Paola Alvarado (PANAM) 2-0 (21-13, 21-11); while Ana Gallay/Fernanda Pereyra (ARG) defeated Lisbeth Allcca/Claudia Gaona of Peru 2-0 (21-16, 21-15).

In Group C, the Brazilian pair Ana Patrícia/Duda won 2-0 (21-13, 21-10) against Diana Ríos/Margarita Guzmán (COL). Meanwhile, María Gonzalez/Alanis Navas of Puerto Rico triumphed 2-0 (21-16, 21-11) against Yvonne Soler/Laura Molina (ESA).

In Group D, Brandie Wilkerson/Melissa Humana-Paredes (CAN) won their second match defeating Julibeth Payano/Bethania Almanzar (DOM) 2-0 (22-20, 21-16). Erika Mongelos/Michelle Valiente (PAR) won 2-0 (21-8, 21-15) against Isabel Bianchi/Sol Acuña of Uruguay.
