Eight team looking for four tickets for quarterfinals
BARRANQUILLA. July 28, 2018. Cuba, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago
and Guatemala advanced directly to the quarterfinals of the
men's volleyball beach tournament of the XXII Central American
and Caribbean Games.
Cubans Sergio González/Nivaldo Díaz, beat 21-16, 21-14
Cristiano Encarnación/Daniel Quiñones from Puerto Rico, to lead
group A, and will face the winner of the match between Nicaragua
and Curaçao.
The host couple Johan Murray/Jorge Luis Manjarres won 21-11,
21-19 at Josua Seabrookes/ St. Clair Hodge, from Saint Kitt and
Neves to stay with the group A. Colombia will play in the
quarterfinals against the winner of the game between Dominican
Republic and El Salvador, second in pool F.
Andy Leonardo and Luis García, from Guatemala, won Group C by
beating 30-28, 21-16 at Alex Medina/Víctor Castillo of Dominican
Republic in an intense game, especially in the first set.
Leonardo/García will face the winner of the game between
Venezuela and Saint Kitt and Neves.
Trinidad and Tobago advanced to the quarterfinals as first of
group D, waiting for the winner between Mexico and Puerto Rico.
Daneil Williams/Daynte Stewart, of Trinidad, won 21-18, 18-21,
15-10 to Danny Lopez/Ruben Mora from Nicaragua.
The Mexicans Lombardo Ontiveros/Juan Virgen, were first in the
group E when winning 21-7, 21-6 to Miguel López/Peter Edward,
from Virgin Islands.
Carlos Rangel/José Gómez, from Venezuela advanced first in pool
F, won 21-15, 21-9 to Joshua Dwarkasing / Keven Sporkslede, from
Suriname.
Richard Smith/Víctor Alpizar, of Costa Rica, won 22-24, 21-9,
15-10 to Carlos Talavera and David Vargas, from El Salvador to
take the second place and advance among the best 12.
This Monday will play the matches of the 12 teams round, in
search of the four available in Quarterfinals, starting at 10:00
a.m. at Puerta del Sol Convention Center. The quarterfinals
matches will be play at 3:00 p.m..
In addition, the games of the consolation round of place 13 to
22 will be held.
