GROS ISLET, St Lucia, October 15, 2015 – The sixth stop of the
2015 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit will take place in St
Lucia from October 16-18, with sixteen teams per gender divided
into four pools taking part in the competition.
St Lucia is hosting a NORCECA Beach Volleyball event for the
third time with the two previous tournaments held in 2012 and
2014 dominated by USA teams on each occasion. Eighteen countries
are fielding teams.
This season’s two-time winners Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan
Virgen of Mexico have been registered to participate in the
men’s segment and were scheduled to arrive on the eve of the
tournament on Thursday. The successful Mexican duo won the stops
in North Bay, Canada and Tavares, Florida.
The list of men’s teams registered also include Trinidad &
Tobago’s pair of Fabien Whitfield and Daneil Williams who
claimed the bronze medal in Tavares this year as well as the
home St Lucia’s duo of Joseph Clercent and Augustin Flaukner.
Clercent won a bronze medal won two bronze medals with Julian
Bissette as his partner in 2012.
The participants in the women’s event include USA’s Irene Hester
and Caitlin LeDoux, who took home the gold medal in North Bay
this year, as well as Costa Ricans Karen Cope and Natalia Alfaro
who won the bronze medal in the last two events held in Varadero,
Cuba and Tavares.
The general technical meeting will take place on Thursday
evening chaired by Brian Louisy, president of St Lucia
Volleyball Federation who presides over the Organizing
Committee.
