El Salvador Women and Nicaragua Men Lead on Day One of the U19 Central American Beach Championship

 

SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, November 30, 2023.- The women’s team from El Salvador and the men’s team from Nicaragua lead the standings after the first day of competition at the III Central American U19 Championship, held on the sand courts at La Sabana in the Costa Rican capital.

 

In the women’s division, Daniela Vigil and Ashley Rauda of El Salvador won both of their matches. They began the day with a 2-1 (23-25, 21-17, 15-12) victory over Yuliana Cháves/Ella Resau from Nicaragua and later defeated Valery Rodríguez/Greisy Cardona of Honduras 2-0 (21-9, 21-5) in the day’s final match.

 

Maritza Zúñiga and Dulce Aguilar of Guatemala secured one win and one loss. They defeated Rodríguez/Cardona (HON) 2-0 (21-8, 21-3) but fell to Valentina Molina and Sofía Vega of Costa Rica 2-0 (21-13, 21-19).

 

After their loss to Vigil/Rauda, Yuliana Cháves/Ella Resau from Nicaragua earned a quick 2-0 (21-7, 21-7) victory over the Honduras duo.

 

Following the results of the women’s matches, El Salvador leads the standings, followed by Guatemala, 3-Nicaragua, 4-Honduras and 5-Costa Rica.

 

In the men’s division, Justin Barrios and Deyner López of Nicaragua secured two victories; 2-0 (21-15, 21-10) against Diego Barrera and Josué Alvarado of El Salvador and 2-0 (21-14, 21-10) against Jairo Gálvez and Isaac Méndez of Honduras.

 

In their only match of the day, Julián Araya and Stanley Grant of Costa Rica defeated Guevara/Morán of Guatemala 2-0 (21-10, 21-16). The Guatemalan duo had previously claimed a hard-fought 2-1 (21-16, 16-21, 15-12) win over Gálvez/Méndez from Honduras.

 

The Hondurans closed the day by defeating Barrera/Alvarado from El Salvador 2-0 (21-16, 21-13).

 

Thus, Nicaragua leads the men’s standings, 2-Honduras, 3-Guatemala, 4-Costa Rica y 5-El Salvador.
