El Salvador beats

Honduras 3-0

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, October 18, 2021 - El Salvador defeated Honduras 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-18) at the start of the second day of the XXI Central American Senior Women's Volleyball Cup.

The Salvadorans took advantage of the little attack of their opponents to mark an early advantage in all sets and although Honduras pressed in the closes it was not enough.

El Salvador was superior in attack 33-16, also taking advantage in the service 13-6, both got four points per blocking and Honduras could not take advantage of the errors of its opponent who granted 33 points, for 25 committed.

Adriana Flores, from El Salvador, scored 14 points, for 11 each from Gabriela Funes and María Jiménez. Honduras was limited to 5 points each by captain Estefany Godoy, Cecille Johnson and Andrea Aceituno.

Adriana Flores, captain of El Salvador: “We had a bit of mistakes even though we won, only now we were more organized, we knew how to be forceful, we improved our defense and we have to improve our serve. A victory always makes expectations grow and makes you want to go higher ”.

Nery Petrovic, El Salvador coach: “Little by little we are adapting to the level of the competition and hopefully the results will be given. We had problems in some rotations with the reception and there we lowered the level a bit, especially in the closing of the sets. The mentality changed because we spoke with some of them, so that they contribute their sporting maturity, although we bring 10 players who is their first major and we have to be motivating them ”.

Estefany Godoy, captain of Honduras: “We are a very young team, under 20 and under 23, we started training a month ago, we came little by little because the team felt little confidence, but it has already changed a bit, with more spirit . We are going to work on that, increase our confidence as players and our enthusiasm ”.

Marvin Ulloa, Honduras coach: “Sometimes we have good stretches of play, but it is difficult for us to sustain it for the necessary time. We had problems attacking, but when our captain came in she started to use her head and score points, but El Salvador has an experienced player (Flores) who was on fire today and we couldn't stop her even though we made adjustments in blocking. "

"It also affects us that one of our best attackers is injured, Cecille (Johnson) and she has not been able to play one hundred percent, that has lowered our effectiveness in attack as well."

This Tuesday, Honduras will face Belize at 1:00 p.m.; while El Salvador will play with Panama at 4:00 p.m.
