MANAGUA, Nicaragua, October 22, 2021 - El
Salvador defeated Guatemala 3-1 (27-25, 25-13,
18-25, 25-22), on the penultimate day of the XXI
Women's Major Central American Cup.
For El Salvador it was their fourth victory
against one loss, securing a place on the podium
with the opportunity to change the color of the
medal in the last game on Saturday, while
Guatemala finished with a 3-3 record, ending
their participation in the Cup.
Gabriela Funes was El Salvador's top scorer with
16 points, while Adriana Flores and Daniela
López each contributing 14 points. For
Guatemala, María García achieved 15 points and
from Rut Gómez added 11.
Astrid González with 4 blocks, helped Guatemala
overcome their opponents in that area (9-7), but
the Salvadorans were better in attacks 43-36 and
service 11-4, receiving 34 points from errors by
the opponent while committing 36.
El Salvador will face Nicaragua this Saturday at
7:00 p.m.
“Today we came prepared to get this result that
would allow us to be on the podium and tomorrow
do not be scared if we surprise Nicaragua. They
(his team) have a lot of courage, a lot of
momentum, it is a young team, a promise for
later on and the goal of being on the podium was
fulfilled”, said Nery Petrovic, El Salvador´s
