SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, August 21, 2015. - El Salvador crushed
Panama 3-0 (25-16, 25-6, 25-2) at the XI Girls’ U-18 Central
American Championship.
El Salvador still has a chance to reach the podium, while Panama
concludes in last position and win-less.
Panama was punished with El Salvador’s superiority over the net
with a huge advantage (25-8) in kills and (25-2) in service
points.
Gabriela Funes of El Salvador topped all scorers with 22 points,
13 on spikes and 9 on serves; her teammate Sofia Velasquez added
14 points. Nayoisse Cambell with 5 points and Selena Urbina with
4 points led Panama.
Nayoisse Campbell, captain of Panama spoke about her team´s
performance in the tournament “I believe we could have done
things better; in set three our attitude was too low. I am
grateful to have competed here; it was a good experience, with
high leveled teams”.
El Salvador’s captain Gabriela Funes said “we began too
confident and lacking concentration, our serves weren’t
effective as usual, we improved as the match advanced, having in
mind the podium”.
Clarke Eliot coach of Panama gave his impressions about the
tournament “I want to thank Afecavol for this opportunity, if
our team would have practiced more we could have put up a fight;
the experience is good and we have to go back home and work
harder”.
Coach Eric Hernández of El Salvador indicated “teams who feel
too comfortable and confident are having surprised, this is what
happened to us in the first set; we were able to adjust and
finish in three sets which gives us hope to finish third pending
on other results”.
